Meet My Supervisors: Expert Mentors in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

Weiyan Liu, LAc

Weiyan Liu, LAc, brings extensive expertise in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and integrative healthcare. She earned her Master’s degree in Geriatrics from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1996, following her Bachelor’s degree in TCM from Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1989.
In China, Weiyan completed dual residency training in both TCM and Western Medicine, solidifying her comprehensive medical background. She served as an attending physician in the TCM Department at Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, where she honed her clinical skills and specialized knowledge.
Since joining PCHS in 2006, Weiyan has been dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and sharing her deep understanding of holistic medicine.
Dr. Brent Garcia, LAc, LMT
Thursday evening supervisor
Brent Garcia, DACM, LAc, LMT, is an acupuncturist, massage therapist, and herbalist specializing in pain management, chronic anxiety, and mood disorders.
Brent’s journey into holistic medicine began on the soccer field, where a chronic Achilles tendon injury led him to explore therapeutic massage and bodywork. These therapies helped him regain mobility and inspired his passion for healing. Acupuncture further transformed his life, helping him quit smoking deepening his appreciation for Traditional Chinese Medicine.
He earned his massage certificate (2012), Master’s in Traditional Oriental Medicine (2015), and Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (2023) from the Pacific College of Health and Science, where he now serves as adjunct faculty and clinic supervisor.
Outside his practice, Brent enjoys film noir, reading, and strength training.


Eric Baker, LAc
Friday afternoon supervisor
Eric Baker, LAc, has been a faculty member at the Pacific College of Health and Science since 2003. With an undergraduate degree in psychology, Eric shifted his focus to Chinese medicine for graduate studies, driven by his passion for Asian culture, Taoism, and Zen.
Eric's clinical experience spans both hospital and private practice settings. He has worked extensively at the CORE Center—a joint facility of Cook County Hospital and Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s specializing in HIV/AIDS—and at Ingalls Hospital, part of the University of Chicago Hospital System. He currently maintains a private practice in Chicago.
His clinical interests center on the psychology of Chinese medicine, blending his backgrounds in psychology, Buddhism, and Taoism. He is also deeply engaged in the study of pulse diagnosis, having explored a variety of pulse-taking styles and techniques.
For Eric, sharing the depth, beauty, and transformative power of Chinese medicine is one of life’s greatest joys. Beyond his clinical and teaching roles, Eric co-hosts the podcast Gin and Tantra, which explores the real-world applications of spiritual and philosophical ideas, blending Eastern philosophies with Western practices to inspire self-development and awareness.
